The Thrift Shop

Second Chance Thrift Shop gives a way for pre-loved items to be purchased at low cost and be reused within our community. Thrift shopping is a responsible method of shopping; it is good for the environment as it reduces the production of new items and reduces the rate that used items end up in landfill. The Shop is run by a group of volunteers, providing an enjoyable way for people to contribute to the community and meet new people. The Shop supports local volunteer community programs.

The aim is that the Second Chance Thrift Shop will have a positive environmental and social impact in the KAUST community.

    • Household equipment, kitchenware and decorative items
    • Electrical items

  • Special requests: There are always requests for men’s clothing, as these are barely ever received as donations. Please donate men’s clothing that is not in use!

  •

  • How To Donate?

Donations of quality, clean items are always welcome. To donate, please:

    • Bring donations to the store during sale times.
    • Donations can also be dropped off at the various drop-off sites on campus, in Palms: P-7122 & Gardens: G-3632. Donations can be dropped off at any time at these locations.

Donated items are sold, at low cost, to people who work or live in KAUST.

  • Volunteering opportunities- For the community, by the community

The Thrift Shop is always in need of volunteers. All KAUST residents are welcome to reach out via email, or in-store to express interest and confirm availability for training. Activities include:

    • Sorting and pricing donated items for the shop
    • Collecting items from donors
    • Selling in the shop

Volunteers usually spend five hours in store, per week, depending on available stock and sorting requirements. This is not fixed and can be adapted accordingly, especially for those working.

Children aged 6-15 can volunteer when accompanied by an adult. Anyone with a KAUST ID and is 16+ are welcome to volunteer.
