25 March, 2024
In celebration of World Water Day, KAUST Facilities Management, fully supported by Students for Sustainability, successfully conducted guided tours of the Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Plant. This event was part of a broader celebration emphasizing the critical role of water in our ecosystem.
The theme of this year's World Water Day, 'Water for Peace,' draws attention to the urgent need for water conservation and sustainable management among the pressures of climate change and population growth. KAUST's participation in this important day confirms our commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) achieving clean water and sanitation for all by 2030.
On Thursday, March 21, these tours provided the KAUST community with an informative look into the technology and processes that produce 40,000 m³/day of clean water. Facilities Management offered a detailed view into the sophisticated aspects of water provision and management, echoing the World Water Day theme of 'Water for Peace.'
The open house was a resounding success, attracting substantial community interest with more than 25 participants joining the tours. The first tour started at 10:00 am and the second at 1:00 pm, each giving participants an in-depth look at the plant's production capabilities, as well as the meticulous monitoring and tracking systems in place.
The tours of the SWRO plant not only offered an educational journey but also provided a moment for contemplation about the significance of water in our lives and the essential need for stewardship to protect this invaluable resource. KAUST is proud to have facilitated this initiative and is looking forward to ongoing efforts to advance sustainability within and beyond our community.
Don’t miss the photos and video of the Day.
While the Sustainability Department led the World Water Day observance, the collaborative plant tours with Facilities Management were a standout feature, demonstrating KAUST's comprehensive approach to supporting SDG 6: the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
KAUST Facilities Management is honored by this joint endeavor, which highlights our shared dedication to sustainability, environmental education, and the imperative of water conservation.
