Saudi Rugby Federation and KAUST launch exciting collaboration.

10 October, 2024

The Saudi Rugby Federation and KAUST are thrilled to announce the launch of their collaborative partnership following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in April 2024. This collaboration is set to enhance the promotion of rugby and educational initiatives across Saudi Arabia.

The MoU highlights several key areas of collaboration:

  1. Education: The Saudi Rugby Federation and KAUST will work together to create training opportunities and identify educational institutions to support rugby-related educational strategies in Saudi Arabia.
  2. Events: Plans are in place to co-host annual rugby competitions, providing essential platforms for talent development and community engagement in the sport.
  3. Collaboration: Both organizations will identify and develop programs to promote collective participation in rugby initiatives throughout the Kingdom.
  4. Other Areas: The partnership will also extend to marketing strategies, investor attraction, and innovative research initiatives, further enhancing the sporting landscape in Saudi Arabia.

The first event under this MoU took place on Friday, September 27, featuring a one-day trainers’ course attended by 18 KAUST members eager to develop their rugby coaching skills. This training marks the beginning of a series of initiatives aimed at building a vibrant rugby culture within the Kingdom.

Amr Atiah, Vice President of Campus and Community (C&C), expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, "This collaboration represents a significant step toward fostering rugby and community engagement in Saudi Arabia. We are thrilled to contribute to the development of rugby, not just as a sport but as a platform for education and community building."

As part of the ongoing collaboration, the Saudi Rugby Federation is planning additional events throughout 2024 and is committed to keeping the community informed about confirmed dates and activities.

As this collaboration develops, stakeholders and rugby enthusiasts can anticipate a dynamic year ahead, filled with educational opportunities and sporting events that celebrate rugby in Saudi Arabia.

Daniel Buttigieg, Director of Community, added, "At KAUST, we are committed to bringing people together through sports and meaningful experiences. The partnership with the Saudi Rugby Federation will provide our community members with unique opportunities to participate in rugby activities while promoting physical wellness and teamwork."
